Formation
Prominent banker Kazi Md. Shafiqur Rahman (Former Managing Director, Mutual Trust Bank Limited) first thought that almost all the sectors in the country (say, BCS cadres, Doctors, Engineers, Agriculturists, Armed Forces, Police Forces, Business Communities and so on) have forum or association to raise their voice for the professional cause and their welfare. But although banking is a big and important sector of the country they do not have any such platform or forum for the officers of the banks. He felt that a single organized platform is very necessary to have a combined voice for the welfare of the officers as well as for the cause of their family members and dependents. At his personal initiative a meeting of bankers was organized on 18th October, 2014 at Captains' World, Shaheed Jahangir Gate, Mohakhali, Dhaka where officers from as many as 13 commercial banks attended. After realizing the gravity and importance all the officers present consented to form an association of bankers namely "Bankers' Welfare Association Bangladesh (BWAB)". In that meeting a Convening Committee was formed giving the responsibilities of Convener to Mr. Kazi Md. Shafiqur Rahman, Member Secretary to Mr. Ahsan Habib, SVP, Trust Bank Limited and Treasurer to Mr. Alamgir Hasan, SAVP, Mutual Trust Bank Limited.
As a result of the sincere efforts of that Convening Committee Bankers' Welfare Association Bangladesh (BWAB) was accredited with the
License No. 25/2016
dated 25/10/2016 from the Ministry of Commerce and got
Registration No. TO-936/2016
dated 15/11/2016 from RJSC, Dhaka. Now, this is the only legal, registered and big forum of the banking and financial institution community of the country. BWAB is the only platform to raise a combined voice of unity for the welfare of its members from Banks and NBFIs, their family members and dependents throughout the country.
